WHS Hosts OMEA DIII Junior High Honors Festival

WAPAKONETA- The Ohio Musical Education Association District Three Junior High Honors Festival was held over the weekend at Wapakoneta High School’s Performing Arts Center. Students from nearly 35 schools all around Western Ohio gathered Saturday for an afternoon of talented music.

The Jazz Band kicked off the festival with Mr. Gage Hoehne and Mr. Adam Verbsky conducting. The band performed Avenue Swing, Blue Train, Inside Out, and Centerpiece. After instruments filled the room with sound, voices from the choir pleased the full crowd. Directed by Mrs. Katie Slicott, they sang Shenandoah, Obwisana, Brarka Na Wewe, Storm, and Why We Sing. Members representing Wapakoneta City Schools included Emma Donavan, Aliyah Garcia, Peytonn Bowersock, Lily Dodds, Myka Lucas, Anthony Cervantes, Bryce Shuckman, Zoltan Shroup, and Caleb Kiefer.

Wapakoneta High School alumni Ryan Yahl conducted the Concert Band performance, which included songs likeDreams of Victory, It Is Well, Kamehameha,andPhoto Finish!. Band members that performed from Wapakoneta included Ella Thuman, Meagan Shlutz, Michael Flinn, and Jakob Etter. Waynesfield-Goshen was represented by Chloe Stackler and Hunter Jones.
