WAPAKONETA- The Wapakoneta Girls Tennis team kept their success going with another 5-0 sweep against Kenton in a Western Buckeye League matchup on Thursday.
“Great way to cap off our regular season and send our seniors out on a high note! We were able to string six match victories in a row along the way,” Wapakoneta Head Coach Austin Scott said.
Wapakoneta sophomore Liberty Jolly defeated Wildcat senior Lilly Carmean 6-2, 6-3 in the first singles match. “Liberty is playing her best tennis of the season right now, and I still think there’s potential to keep going up,” Scott expressed.
In second singles play, Redskin junior Kate Eley got the win over Kenton freshman Amanda Van Horn 6-0, 6-0. “Kate is also playing her best tennis of the season right now. She’s gritty as all get out, and I’m glad the results are coming along with it,” Scott noted.
Wapakoneta junior Brooklyn Mowery continued to impress as she finished the regular season undefeated after her win over Presley Wilson 6-0, 6-0. “Brooklyn finished the regular season undefeated at 15-0. That’s such an incredible feat, and I’m honestly curious how many girls have done that in our school history,” said Scott. “She’s on an elite list.”
In first doubles, Wapakoneta juniors Anja Walters and Mylie Moser came out in the win column over Kenton’s Lydia Lambert and Marissa Fox 6-1, 6-0. “Anja and Mylie finished undefeated in the WBL. Excited to see what they can do in the tournaments coming up,” Scott explained.
Wapakoneta sophomore Hannah Palmer and junior Nevaeh Dancer got a 6-0, 6-0 win over the Wildcats McKenna Stanforth and Katelyn Stevenson. “Hannah & Nevaeh finished the season strong with a win tonight, and they’re now 4-2 in their six matches together,” explained Scott.
