Redskin Golfers Compete in WBL Championships
VAN WERT- Thursday morning, ten Western Buckeye League schools competed in the WBL Boys Golf Championships on the course of Van Wert’s Willow Bend Country Club.
The Cougars of Van Wert won the tournament at their own course with a team score of 310, clinching second place in the league standings. Ottawa-Glandorf won the league title with a second place finish of 312. The Wapakoneta Redskins finished sixth on Thursday with 340 strokes and fifth in the overall league standings.
Shawnee’s Matthew Stiles was named tournament medalist with an 18-hole round of 72, while St. Marys’ Brennan Stiger and Ottawa-Glandorf’s David Maag were second and third, respectively.
Wapakoneta was led by sophomore Anderson Hamel, who earned league honors with a round of 77 (37-40). Freshman Henry Eley landed a spot on the Honorable Mention list with his round of 86 (44-42). Other Redskin golfers were Preston Hinkle (85; 44-41), Holden Bowersock (92; 47-45), Eli Van Meter (95; 45-50), and Ethan Frost (100; 47-53).
Wapakoneta is back in action next week at the Sectional Tournament.
